Three Social Evils That Hurt Our World Today: When I think about our world, I see so many beautiful things bright sunrises, kind faces, and people helping each other. But I also see some sad things that make my heart hurt. These are things called social evils, and they hurt many people every day. Let me tell you about three social evils that are prevalent today, and why we need to understand them and fight against them together.
The first social evil I want to talk about is child labor. Last summer, I visited my grandmother’s village, and I saw something that made me cry. There was a boy, maybe seven or eight years old, working in the fields under the hot sun instead of going to school. He had dirt under his fingernails and tired eyes. My grandmother told me that this boy had to work to help his family buy food. It broke my heart because I was playing video games that day, and he was working so hard. Child labor takes away childhood from children who deserve to play, learn, and dream. These children miss school, hurt their bodies, and never get the chance to become doctors, teachers, or engineers. When we see this social evil, we must speak up and help.
The second social evil that troubles me deeply is bullying in schools. I have a friend named Priya who stopped coming to school because some students were mean to her. They laughed at her clothes and called her names. Priya loved learning and loved drawing, but the bullying made her so sad that she didn’t want to come anymore. Her mother had to change her school. Bullying is a social evil because it makes good children feel terrible about themselves. It makes them believe they are not good enough, not pretty enough, or not smart enough. The sad part is that bullying spreads like a disease when one person is mean, others join in. But you know what? When we stand up for bullied friends and show them kindness, we can stop this evil. Priya is back in school now, at a place where children are kind to each other, and she is smiling again.
The third social evil I want you to know about is poverty and hunger. Near my home, there is a small girl named Meera who comes to our house sometimes. She tells me stories about sleeping hungry at night. Sometimes her mother can’t afford to buy food for the whole week. Poverty is a social evil because it stops children from having basic things that all of us need food, clothes, shelter, and education. Meera is smart and clever, but she may never go to college because her family is too poor to pay for school. When I eat my lunch at school, I think about Meera and how unfair it is. Poverty creates so many problems children get sick more often, they can’t focus in studies, and they feel sad and hopeless.
These three social evils child labor, bullying, and poverty are still very much present in our world today. But here is what gives me hope: we can change things. Every time we show kindness instead of being mean, we fight bullying. Every time we speak against unfairness and injustice, we fight child labor. Every time we help someone in need, we fight poverty. We don’t have to be adults to make a difference. Children like us can inspire others, can be kind friends, can help in our homes and schools, and can spread awareness about these social evils.
Our world will only become better when we all work together with love and courage. Let’s promise ourselves that we will be the generation that stands against these social evils and creates a world where every child can play, learn, and grow happily.
